There are numerous facets to winning a spouse’s buy-in to your business. Making your spouse feel part of your growing empire and ensuring your spouse that they are not a low priority is very important. If your spouse has any uncertainties here are a few tidbits to getting your spouse to love your business:
- Include your spouse in your work whether its cold calling, folding envelopes or simply creating mailing labels. This will create a sense of connection to your company. In return you can ask your spouse how things are handled at his or her work place to create dialog and receive feedback.
- Communicate with your spouse about your business financial obligations and any financial risks. If money is needed confide in you’re spouse about an investor or possibly dipping into your savings. Visuals are great so create a nice flow chart or graph to show your spouse that indicates financial gain/loss. If anything your spouse will be impressed with your effort and dedication.
- Discuss your business dreams. The vision you are headed in and your business plans for the future. Your dreams should always include support from your spouse.
- If you seal a deal with a new client celebrate by taking your spouse out and emphasize how their support has motivated you to excel. Your spouse will appreciate the gesture even if it’s a small dinner or a light lunch.
- Ask for time to focus on your business. Tell your spouse how running a business will not take away from your relationship but it may have to take a back seat from time to time and you will make it up to them.
