Proactive (adj.) – taking action and making changes before they need to be made, rather than waiting until problems develop
Reactive (adj.) – reacting tot hings that happen rather than making things happen yourself
When thinking through the role of a proactive leader, the ideal destination to reach would be a place of consistently creating an atmosphere of growth by choice rather than change by force. However, any good leader will also learn to make sound reactive choices. What you hope will happen is that by being proactive in your approach, those reactive moments will come further and fewer between.
Being consistently reactive in your leadership can and will subject your company to the chaos of trying to catch up to the trend. By being a follower, you never allow your company in innovate in your industry as well as never allow your leadership team the chance to manage the change that comes. Instead you force them to always be in a position of frenzied confusion trying to organize pieces already in motion.
When you develop a culture of being proactive, you are beginning to look at several aspects such as changing trends, the wants and needs of your client base, the growth of your service or product, etc. Looking at these key variants in your organization can help you:
- Become a game changer
- Keep you from falling behind to others in your field
- Manage change
How to be proactive:
- Study your field . It’s important to be up to date not only with the latest trends but also with the direction the experts think the trend is heading.
- Look through your history ad find some of the problems and issues that have come up but have no standard solutions built into your common system and make one.
- Think from the lense of your customer. What could you do to better your organization?
